The thing about resumes

The thing about resumes.

It’s time to start your job search!
Whatever the reason. If you’ve just decided that you’re going to be looking for a new job, you’re probably sitting down right now and refreshing/writing your resume from scratch. Perhaps you’re the kind of person who was taught in high school that a resume must fit on one page, on two pages, in 500 words or some other mystical rule that will make a recruiter read it with bated breath. If so, this is the text for you.
A professional with years of experience should write more.
Whether you are working on more projects, organizing company processes, sales, management or finance, you definitely have something to boast about after many years. I agree, a resume is a conversation starter, not a book. However, think of it as if you were getting down to writing a book and chalking out a plan for it, points that will be easy for you to discuss at an interview.
It’s not enough to write that you were an Engineer in one job, a Manager in another, and a Director in a third, and you’re off the hook for describing 15 years of your career. What projects did you do as an Engineer? To what extent? Were they technically complex? When did you become a person of responsibility and decision-making? How big were the projects you managed as a Manager? What kind of budget did you manage? How many people? Can you identify the 10 most important projects, tasks, challenges on your resume?
Sending resumes, it’s cold mailing
Recruiters don’t respond. You get automated thank you messages. Worse, a recruiter responds and invites you to recruit for a Project Development Manager in RES, and you explain bewildered that development of course, but business (real life story). When you send your resume to job ads, you have no control over whether anyone will read it and whether it will go to a person whose experience will allow you to read it with understanding. Focus on what you have influence over. Write honestly about your career. Your responsibilities, your successes, your ideas. In the end, your resume will end up in the right hands.
What about the graduate, junior?
You too have interesting things to report and stories to tell! Perhaps you participated in a foreign exchange, organized events at the university, are a member of an organization, and many other things that I wouldn’t even think of. Write about it. As for the magic one page. My advice to you is: If it fits, it fits 😊
I am involved in the #Oil&Gas #Renewables #Energy #Constuction industries. If you are interested in engineering, middle and top management positions in these industries, please contact me.
I will read your resume.

The subcontracting wild west

Poland is now one of the largest (maybe the largest?) industrial construction sites in Europe, and we are just getting started. We are implementing landmark investments for the Polish economy. Winning a GW contract or delivering key scopes is no small feat and a long road, including through audits, certifications and complex paperwork. In short, you have to present something of yourself.

At some level of the supply chain, however, something is changing. The murky project water and the time of the “Business Janes” (or Kims, as in this case) is coming.

I’m looking and looking and can’t find any Polish pre-qualification platform that would introduce some form of quality standardization, allow the big ones to more easily search and verify the credibility of the smaller ones.

She let you choose properly.

We do not build with amateurs, that is, the NBA on Polish construction site

The American professional basketball league NBA has gone through fundamental changes in the 21st century that have de facto redefined the sport. The changes had more than just a strictly sporting dimension. Much has also happened in the business sphere: One of the most significant phenomena we can observe in recent years is the growing importance of draftee selections as a component of player exchanges between league teams.

What are draftee selections? In a nutshell, this is the capital available to each league team, allowing it to select, in a predetermined order, the best talent from amateur (primarily university) and professional leagues from around the world. Draftee selection rights can be sold and given away in exchanges, for example, for players and/or other selections.

Until the 2000s, they were only an adjunct to player replacements. They now play an increasingly important role, often being the axis of exchange. This shift toward prioritizing draftee picks and future assets over established players in NBA deals can be likened to an increasingly clear trend in the construction labor market. Just turn the clubs into companies and the players into engineers.

Like NBA teams, companies in the construction sector have historically focused their attention primarily on expanding value by attracting employees with several years of experience, assuming they bring stability, knowledge and a proven track record. So the priorities and hierarchy within the teams were clear, and the pay scale followed them consistently. However, as business evolves and technology advances rapidly, there is a growing realization that an organization’s future success may depend more on investing in capability and innovation than relying solely on past performance. This consequently leads to the subversion of previously prevailing rules.

In both scenarios, there is a fundamental change in the perception of value. NBA teams and construction companies alike are beginning to recognize its potential long-term benefits: If properly identified and nurtured, a young professional basketball/engineering candidate will likely repay with the ability to adapt instantly to a rapidly changing work environment and unparalleled skills. He may also consequently become a key link in the team, a gamechanger capable of taking his employer to a whole new level. A level that employees with experience but limited potential are not able to give the organization. Organizations like and strive for spectacular success. Thus, in pursuit of them, they become, as it were, players in the labor market, accepting, in the name of potential success, the undoubtedly high risks resulting from such an attitude. But about that in the next episode….

Establishment of the Polish Chamber of Offshore Wind Energy (PIMEW).

On January 11, I had the honor on behalf of the Globetek Sp. . sygnować (lewą ręką, ale bez rozmazywania) akt powołania do życia Polskiej Izby Morskiej Energetyki Wiatrowej (ex Polish Offshore Wind Industry Chamber (PIMEW)). Wykorzystajmy szansę i walczmy o swoją pozycję. Świeżo mianowanemu Prezesowi Jakub Budzyński życzę wytrwałości i skuteczności w realizowaniu misji Izby.
