Additionally, flexibility is required for occasional travel to off-site locations for internal or external company and supplier meetings, which may also include international trips.

Requirements:

  • 5 years in environmental management on large-scale international construction projects, including acting as an environmental advisor/manager on at least 2 construction sites (preferably involving HDD or subsurface drilling)
  • Industry-recognized qualifications (e.g., IEMA), valid GWO BST training, OEUK Medical Certificate, and an active driving license.
  • Strong management and stakeholder engagement skills, experience in implementing environmental management systems, and fluency in Polish and English (additional European language is a plus).
  • In-depth understanding of Polish environmental legislation (e.g., waste management, emissions reporting) and practical experience with KOBiZE and BDO databases.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Environmental Risk Management: Assist project risk owners in identifying and managing environmental risks, ensuring they are minimized to a level as low as reasonably practicable. Assess environmental risks and implement emergency response procedures for incidents (e.g., oil spills), including coordinating and training personnel for animal rescue operations.
  • Environmental Management System: Oversee the implementation and compliance of the environmental management system on-site, ensuring alignment with ISO 14001 standards. Conduct audits, prepare reports with recommendations, and continuously improve environmental protection efforts.
  • Waste Management: Develop and monitor site-specific waste management plans, maintain waste records (e.g., in BDO), ensure compliance with legal requirements, and prepare annual reports. Supervise contractors’ waste management activities and verify their adherence to regulations.
  • Pollutant Emission Control: Monitor and report gas and dust emissions (e.g., to KOBiZE), implement corrective actions to reduce emissions, and review contractors’ compliance with emission regulations. Prepare and submit emission-related reports and collaborate with authorities on reporting requirements.
  • Resource Optimization: Minimize environmental impact by monitoring energy, water, and natural resource consumption, identifying opportunities for optimization, and promoting selective collection of secondary raw materials.
  • Training and Awareness: Conduct training sessions and create awareness programs for site workers on environmental protection principles, waste management, and ecological practices. Provide materials and hold periodic meetings to enhance ecological awareness.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Reporting: Prepare and submit legally required environmental reports to authorities accurately and on time. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, permits, and project-specific documentation.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary point of contact for local authorities and stakeholders on environmental matters. Represent the project during inspections and collaborate with authorities to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Contractor Oversight: Supervise contractors’ on-site activities to ensure compliance with environmental permits, legal obligations, and project documentation. Manage contractor activities during incidents and investigate environmental violations or issues.
  • Archaeological Oversight: Provide general oversight of archaeological aspects at the project site, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
