This position is for a Field Geotechnical Engineer to lead a team of geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists performing geotechnical activities for the Poland AP1000 Projectthe ideal candidate must possess strong organizational and teamwork skills, demonstrable managerial experience, proven problem-solving abilities, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to quality. The role requires full-time support of subsurface investigation activities at the site for the duration of the subsurface investigation.
Responsibilities:
The role involves overseeing fieldwork such as drilling, sampling, and field testing activities, organizing and attending meetings with both field and office teams as necessary, and coordinating with other geotechnical engineers, geologists, and client engineers in a collaborative team environment. Specific responsibilities include:
- Acquainting oneself with company specifications, borehole location plan, bill of quantities, and related subcontract documents.
- Participating in scheduled training activities.
- Managing the field team consisting of geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists.
- Conducting regular meetings with the team office to discuss work progress, technical issues, site conditions, and staffing needs.
- Providing technical guidance to subcontractors as required.
- Overseeing field geotechnical activities and ensuring adherence to technical and quality standards.
- Drafting or reviewing field instruction forms to resolve technical issues or clarify work procedures.
- Reviewing field information submitted by subcontractors to ensure accuracy and compliance with requirements.
- Coordinating work among multiple subcontractors to ensure consistency of information.
- Addressing technical issues with subcontractors or escalating them to the team office promptly.
- Assisting with or reviewing the preparation of daily reports.
- Participating in site safety meetings and daily planning sessions as scheduled.
- Ensuring awareness of and compliance with safety requirements and reporting responsibilities.
- Assisting with or reviewing laboratory testing assignments of samples.
- Supporting any inspections or surveillance by the client or the Polish National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA), including presenting samples and fieldwork.
- Assisting, mentoring, and managing other field geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists.
Requirements:
- An M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 11 years of progressive related experience.
- Extensive experience in overseeing and/or performing subsurface investigations, including drilling, sampling, and both field and laboratory testing.
- Proven experience in leading teams of field geotechnical engineers and/or engineering geologists.
- Knowledge of Polish geology.
- Polish certification as a Geologist.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (Polish, European, and international) related to geotechnical investigations (field and laboratory).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and other common computer software.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to effectively utilize engineering and office automation tools.
- Fluency in English.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards (Polish, European, and international) relevant to the nuclear industry.
- Demonstrated experience working on large industrial EPC projects.
- Familiarity with the geology around Lubiatowo.
- Experience with licensing, design, and construction of commercial nuclear power plants.
- Experience with nuclear quality programs.
- Experience working with procedures that meet nuclear quality assurance programs and occupational health and safety standards.
